POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development and documentation of electro-mechanical transducers, vibration generators and associated accessories. Provide technical support to both internal and external customers.

POSITION GUIDELINES

  1. Work effectively across all levels within the location as required to perform responsibilities.
  2. Develop good interpersonal relationships necessary for effective teamwork.
  3. Follows a complete and thorough process when developing new product designs.
  4. Stays abreast of new developments in piezoelectric technology and transducer design technology.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide mechanical design expertise to support development of new products.
  2. Perform value analysis during the product design phase while optimizing product development costs.                                                                                              
  3. Coordinate projects and tasks with the Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to complete assignments and projects on schedule.
  4. Reduce costs and improve mechanical design and development processes, using best practices and professional knowledge.
  5. Test and evaluate new designs, processes, techniques and/or methodologies to develop products for medical, oil & gas,      safety, automotive and aerospace applications/markets.
  6. Maintain project files and appropriate records of work.
  7. Evaluate  and apply leading edge technologies for creating new products and ideas, along with new application opportunities.
  8. Other duties as assigned
             

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience / background:

  1. Five to seven years of experience in an electro-mechanical design environment with emphasis on product design and development. 

Skills:

  1. A thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes and techniques related to mechanical parts selection and design, including material selection and fabrication techniques.
  2. Ability to improve products or services by applying professional and business knowledge.
  3. Working knowledge of the PC and related software packages. Proficient with mechanical design software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Works.  Proficient with Finite Element Method (FEM) software such as ANSYS.
  4. Ability to consistently exercise independent judgement and discretion.
  5. Good written and oral communication skills.
  6. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with every level of the organization

Education:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  2. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Manufacturing / Non-Sedentary Requirements: Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work may be performed in an office or warehouse environment. Typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each work day doing the following activities: stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, or climb.  May have possible exposure to dust, and may require the ability to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds 33% - 66% of the time.
